Metro Routes with Bike Racks

Bus to work and cycle home, bike and bus in stages or get access to cycle tracks around the city. The bike racks are easy to use and your bike rides free.

All buses on the following services are fitted with bike racks
Instructions for using a Metro bike rack

Please remember loading and unloading your bike is up to you. Always load or unload your bike from the front of the bike rack.

Loading your bike

Remove any loose items from bike that could fall off while bus is moving. Let driver know you're going to load your bike.

  1. Squeeze bike rack handle up to release. Lower rack.

  2. Lift bike onto rack with front wheel facing toward yellow support arm and fit wheels into clearly-labelled slots.

  3. Raise support arm over front tyre so the hook rests on the top of the front wheel.

Unloading your bike

Let the driver know you will be unloading your bike and exit via front doors.

  1. Unhook and lower support arm from front tyre and lift your bike from the rack.

  2. If no-one else is using the rack, squeeze handle and fold bike rack back up.

Bike Rack Rules
  • If you're taking the bus, it's free to use the bike rack.
  • There is a $2 (one way) charge for taking your bike on the Diamond Harbour ferry.
  • Cyclists are responsible for loading and unloading their bike.
  • The bike rack takes two bikes at a time. If it's full, wait for the next bus.
  • Bikes cannot be carried on buses that travel inside the City Bus Exchange building. This affects route nos. 3, 7 and 35. Cyclists using these routes must board or disembark one stop before or after the City Bus Exchange.
  • Cyclists may board and disembark buses stopping at the City Bus Exchange Colombo St platforms.
  • Racks are designed to carry bikes with wheels larger than 16" diameter.
  • The maximum insured value of any bike on the rack is $1500.
