Bus fares for greater Christchurch and Timaru and Christchurch's Diamond Harbour ferry service have increased by around 10 per cent from 2 August 2010.

The fare rise addresses the 2.5 per cent rise in Goods and Services Tax from October 1 2010, the 10 per cent rise in the cost of diesel in the six months to the end of May 2010 and the new requirement from the New Zealand Transport Agency to recoup at least 50 per cent of the cost of running public transport services from fares.
