Contactless payments on Route 29 now live

Published 9/12/2024

Route 29 (Airport – City) customers can now pay a single adult bus fare with their contactless debit or credit card! This includes digital payments such as Google Pay and Apple Pay using smart devices.

Metrocard and cash are still available onboard this route and should be used if you normally pay a child or concession fare such as Community Service Card holder, Total Mobility, under 25 or tertiary.

The new contactless payments on Route 29 are helping us test a key part of the new payment system Motu Move. The first day was a success with over 20% of passengers on Route 29 tagging on with their debit/credit card or smart device.

The pilot will be in place until Motu Moves rolls out in full across Canterbury later in 2025. Give it a try and share the news with friends and family who might be taking the bus to or from the airport!

Check the More ways to pay on Route 29 page for more details about using these new payment methods.
