New Metro fares from 1 July
We're excited to be launching our new Metro fares from 1 July, which will mean you can travel on any Metro bus in Greater Christchurch for $2 or less with your Metrocard.
Our universal flat-fare trial, which was announced as part of the Environment Canterbury 2022/23 Annual Plan, will take the place of our existing three zone fare structure and the nationwide half-price fares offer.
We will provide a range of concession fares at 50% of the universal fare — which means $2 adult fares and $1 concession fares on any Metro bus across the whole Greater Christchurch network.
Concessions will be available for those under 25, Community Service card holders, tertiary students and Total Mobility card holders.
Separate fares will apply for payment by cash and for trips on the Diamond Harbour Ferry. Full details on the fares package, including information on accessing the specific concessions, will be published over June.
We are also pleased to be introducing the government's Community Connect concessions as part of our new fares, which includes the Under 25 and Community Services card concessions. Registration for Community Connectis now open.
The proposed free concession for customers aged 5-12 will not be available from 1 July, but all customers under 25 will be eligible for an Under 25 Community Connect concession. Under 5s remain free on Metro services.
See our new fares page for further information, and additional detail on concessions will be published mid-June.
